At the beginning of 1930’ Emil Filla leaved cubism and focused at new shapes. He cooperated with other artists such as František Janoušek, Rudolf Krajc, Vincenc Makovský, František Muzika, Jindřich Štyrský, Karel Teige, Toyen, František Vobecký, Alois Wachsman with them he created a surrealist group. The whole era of art liberty finished with the arrival of Nazi regime and Filla’s imprisonment.

The exhibition was prepared by the National Gallery of Prague, Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien and Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It commemorates 470 years of the Ferdinand’s arrival to Prague. He created the summer palace Hvězda (the Star), one of the largest libraries of this time in Europe as well as a big art gallery and cabinet of curiosities. With his wife he lived in Ambras Chateau near Insbruck in Austria.
